July 23, 2009 — A year ago, Trace Adkins' run on "The Celebrity Apprentice" brought huge attention to the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, a nonprofit agency that was unknown to large swatches of the public.
Trace had a dramatic impact on the organization's fundraising, and he's signed on for a third year as the honorary chair of the FAAN Walk For Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure. The program will include benefit walks in 33 cities around the U.S., plus a December online drive to help erase food allergies.
It's a cause Trace knows well. His daughter, Brianna, is affected adversely by a number of different foods.
"I know firsthand how important FAAN's efforts to increase funding for food allergy research and education are," he said. "Please join me and thousands of others nationwide in raising awareness about food allergies and money to find a cure."
The first FAAN walk takes place Aug. 15 in Portland, Or e., with the last slated Nov. 21 in Key Biscayne, Fla. The online walk will be held Dec. 5. The full list of cities can be found at www.foodallergy.org.
By the time the FAAN campaign comes to a conclusion, Trace will be a comic-book hero. He's the inspiration behind 12 Gauge Comics' Luke McBain, a four-issue series that incorporates some of Trace's personal story and his own philosophy. It comes out in November.
