Sara Evans’ All-Star Performance

July 10, 2009 — Sara Evans' husband is a former college quarterback and the host of a sports-radio talk show in Birmingham, so he's likely as thrilled as anyone with Sara's prime-time gig next week. She's slated to sing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch on Tuesday during Major League Baseball's All-Star Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Sara's just one of numerous Missouri-bred musicians who've been booked for All-Star events. Kennett-born Sheryl Crow will sing the national anthem on Tuesday in addition to playing a charity concert at the Gateway Arch on Saturday with Elvis Costello. "American Idol" champion David Cook, a native of Blue Springs, will perform two songs Monday during the home run derby, and "Idol" finalist Nikko Smith — whose father, Ozzie, used to play shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals — will do "The Star-Spangled Banner" that same day.
President Barack Obama will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
It's not the first time Sara's given a baseball-related performance this year. In May, she sang the national anthem before a high-school game in Birmingham. Briarwood Christian pitcher Ben Bracewell proceeded to throw a no-hitter.
