July 16, 2009 — When Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss + Union Station visit the White House to perform for the president next week, GAC will be there with Storme Warren taping a one-hour special that will air on the network early next month.
Brad and Alison will perform July 21 as part of a music series hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. President Barack Obama will also make some opening remarks at the event, which will be attended by 120 students, including 40 from the W.O. Smith/Nashville Community School of Music.
The Country Music Association is funding the students' trip through its Keep The Music Playing charity, which has contributed more than $2 million to Music City school programs.
"This is a one-time opportunity that is a natural fit for our campaign of supporting music education for public school students and providing musical experiences that they otherwise would not be ab le to enjoy," CMA Chief Executive Officer Tammy Genovese said. "These outstanding young musicians are the future of the music industry, and what a meaningful lesson they'll learn about the power of following your dreams and believing that anything is possible."
That is, in some respects, a theme in Brad's current single, "Welcome To The Future." It was inspired in part by his experiences in New York on Election Day in November, making the White House visit a full-circle event for Brad.
