May 12, 2009 — On Sunday, Trace Adkins returned to "The Celebrity Apprentice" where he heard Donald Trump say "you're fired" again, a year after he lost the NBC competition to Piers Morgan. This week, it was poker player Annie Duke who got the axe.
Trace makes another return on TV this month, performing for the second time during the National Memorial Day Concert from Washington, D.C., on PBS. He sang "Arlington" in the 2005 edition, and this year, he's poised to deliver "Til The Last Shot's Fired," a war-themed song from his album X, where he was backed by the West Point Glee Club.
"On my Top 5 list of things that have happened to me and my career, I would say that night is right behind being made a member of the Grand Ole Opry, as far as being a special night," he told Suzanne Alexander on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I really can't imagine, I can't think of anything else that I've done other than that, to top that. It was just one of the most inspirational things I've ever been a part of."
Inspirational moments are part of the appeal at the National Memorial Day concert. Trace will be joined on the May 24 roster by pop singer Katharine McPhee, classical pianist Lang Lang, Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell, statesman Colin Powell and actors Gary Sinise, Joe Montegna, Dianne Wiest and Laurence Fishburne.
