March 18, 2009 — Jason Aldean won the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist award two years ago, and now he's looking to release his next album, Wide Open, on the heels of this year's ceremony.
Reba McEntire hosts the show from Las Vegas April 5, and Jason's CD will hit the streets two days later. It marks his third album and finds him much wiser about the way the business works.
"We didn't even know what we were doing," he told Billboard, referring to his first album. "We just found a bunch of songs and cut them."
Whatever he's done, it worked. Fans responded to such hits as "Hicktown," "Johnny Cash," "Amarillo Sky" and Jason's current single, "She's Country." And he's headlining some dates this year while opening others for Keith Urban.
Jason's watched other artists, including Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, go gonz o out of the chute and pass him in the Nashville pecking order. He may not have accelerated as fast as them, but you won't hear him complain.
"We've had a slow, steady pace," he said. "Hopefully that will allow us to hang around for a while. We're off to a good start."
Jason will headline when the ACM presents a free concert at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas leading up to this year's awards. Also on the bill that night are Jake Owen, Julianne Hough and Matt Stillwell.
