March 24, 2009 — "I don't need your rockin' chair!" George Jones once sang in an award-winning single. But this rocker might be of interest: A pink Dolly Parton rocker is on sale at Cracker Barrel stores — the first limited-edition chair the restaurant-and-retail chain has ever offered with a country-star connection.
The rockers — bright pink, in conjunction with the artwork for her current Backwoods Barbie album — went on sale Monday, and they're in such limited supply that each store received only a couple of chairs for sale. Just 1,350 were made, each with a pewter plate on the back and a unique number. They sell for $199, and when they're gone, they're gone.
It's just one part of a wave of Dolly products being sold at the Cracker Barrel country stores. The highway chain is also offering The Official Col lector's Edition Dolly Parton Photo Album, a picture book that documents Dolly's eye-popping outfits and multiple hairstyles over the years. And the company has also put together Backwoods Barbie: Collector's Edition, a version of her current album that includes three exclusive recordings: "Rose Of My Heart," "Hallelujah Holiday" and "Berry Pie."
"I wanted the songs I chose specifically for this release to reflect how I feel about Cracker Barrel and all the good things you can find there," Dolly says. "I think it's important for there to be an authentic connection to the heritage that Cracker Barrel and I share."
Her rural heritage doesn't stop Dolly from doing big-city things, though, and a very big-city event is on her April calendar. 9 To 5: The Musical begins previews on Broadway April 7, with the official opening date set for April 30.
