Fire destroys Tammy Wynette's former home

A lakeside home once owned by country music legend Tammy Wynette in the early 1980s burned almost to the ground Sunday evening.

According to Hendersonville Fire Inspector Bob Galoppi, firefighters were called by neighbors of 142 Riviera Drive to a home that was fully engulfed by flames. Galoppi said the home’s owners, Kuan Vuong and Thuy Nguyen were away celebrating the Vietnamese New Year at the time of the blaze. The couple owns a local nail salon and spa in Hendersonville and arrived home after midnight, he said.

“Around 90 percent was on fire when firefighters arrived,” Galoppi said. He said the home, valued at around $1.5 million is a total loss with the fire, water and smoke damage.

Galoppi added it’s too soon to tell what caused the blaze.

According to the Sumner County Registrar of Deeds office, Tammy Wynette owned the home with her husband, George Richardson, from 1980-84. The home was also owned at one time by Fairvue developer Leon Moore, according to deeds records.
